In the early phases of the project, I developed a pre-visualization tool in TouchDesigner that allowed Doug and his team to load content samples onto the LED surface and test different effects, color shifts and canvas layouts.
Aside from helping design the pipeline and concept for the overall system, I was also put in charge of the fairly complex pixel raster to send imagery to this uncommon canvas. Using UVmapping techniques and TouchDesigner's amazing ability to convert 3d data to 2d data and vice versa, this process ended up becoming very flexible and reliable.
Finally one of the most fun parts of this project was the creation of a "vj" tool to control the visuals on the building during the one time performance Terry Riley did to open the exhibit to the public.
I was very lucky to collaborate with the amazing team at AV&C, led by David Bianciardi.
Elburz Sorkhabi was heavily involved, as well as the whole team at Derivative.
