For the 2021 edition of Electric Castle, Covid restrictions wouldn’t allow for a full-blown event at Bontida Castle, the traditional home of this event.
Instead, the festival organizers took over the city of Cluj-Napoca, the capital of Transylvania. As in 2019, we organized a New Media Castle exhibition, but this time in several venues across town.

Additionally, I was asked to conceive of a light installation that would take over a unique structure at one of the highest points of the town, the parachute tower.
This structure is designed for those training their parachute jumping skills, and there are only three similar structures in Europe.

The mandate was that its presence had to be felt both day and night, as the festival started in the early afternoon and went on until 1am.

To that effect, the concept involved a translucent fabric that served as a diffuser for lighting fixtures and the sun. At the base of the structure, a DJ booth was activated and custom light programming was developed.
